On asymptotic behavior of solutions to higher-order sublinear Emden–Fowler delay differential equations

Abstract We study asymptotic behavior of solutions to a class of higher-order sublinear Emden–Fowler delay differential equations. Our theorems improve several results reported recently in the literature. Two examples are provided to illustrate the importance and advantages of new criteria.
Removing the saturation assumption in Bank-Weiser error estimator analysis in dimension three

International audience; We provide a new argument proving the reliability of the Bank-Weiser estimator for Lagrange piecewise linear finite elements in both dimension two and three. The extension to dimension three constitutes the main novelty of our study. In addition, we present a numerical comparison of the Bank-Weiser and residual estimators for a three-dimensional test case.
Temperature Coefficients of Solar Cell Parameters at Maximum Power Point

Analytical expressions for the temperature coefficients of the maximum power point voltage and current are presented. The temperature coefficients are calculated assuming the bandgap to be a linear function of the temperature and accounting for energy losses of non-radiative nature. The latter are introduced in the model through the External Radiative Efficiency. The so-called $\gamma$ parameter, which has been shown to account for the thermal sensitivity of all mechanisms determining the open-circuit voltage, appears to also play a role in the temperature coefficient of the maximum power point voltage and current. Numerical Treatment of the Filament-Based Lamellipodium Model (FBLM)

We describe in this work the numerical treatment of the Filament-Based Lamellipodium Model (FBLM). This model is a two-phase two-dimensional continuum model, describing the dynamics of two interacting families of locally parallel F-actin filaments. It includes, among others, the bending stiffness of the filaments, adhesion to the substrate, and the cross-links connecting the two families. The numerical method proposed is a Finite Element Method (FEM) developed specifically for the needs of this problem. Let A be an associative algebra with pseudoinvolution (Formula presented.) over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero and let (Formula presented.) be its sequence of (Formula presented.) -codimensions. We shall prove that such a sequence is polynomially bounded if and only if the variety generated by A does not contain five explicitly described algebras with pseudoinvolution. Purpose An increase in lens thickness is often described as a linear function of age. However, contradictory opinions exist about whether the lens thickness continues to increase after 50 years of age. Differences in slope exist between this increase in younger and older people, but these findings are inconsistent with the linear behavior of an increase in the lens thickness throughout life. We investigated among different functions, including slope variation, which would be the best to show the relation between lens thickness and age. Abstract Estimations of the number of solutions are given for various resonant cases of the boundary value problem 𝑥″ + 𝑔(𝑡, 𝑥) = 𝑓(𝑡, 𝑥, 𝑥′), 𝑥(𝑎) cos α – 𝑥′(𝑎) sin α = 0, 𝑥(𝑏) cos β – 𝑥′(𝑏) sin β = 0, where 𝑔(𝑡, 𝑥) is an asymptotically linear nonlinearity, and 𝑓 is a sublinear one. We assume that there exists at least one solution to the BVP.
Weakened acute type condition for tetrahedral triangulations and the discrete maximum principle

We prove that a discrete maximum principle holds for continuous piecewise linear finite element approximations for the Poisson equation with the Dirichlet boundary condition also under a condition of the existence of some obtuse internal angles between faces of terahedra of triangulations of a given space domain. This result represents a weakened form of the acute type condition for the three-dimensional case.
Multiple solutions with sign information for a (p,2)-equation with combined nonlinearities

Abstract We consider a parametric nonlinear Dirichlet problem driven by the sum of a p -Laplacian and of a Laplacian (a ( p , 2 ) -equation) and with a reaction which has the competing effects of two distinct nonlinearities. A parametric term which is ( p − 1 ) -superlinear (convex term) and a perturbation which is ( p − 1 ) -sublinear (concave term). First we show that for all small values of the parameter the problem has at least five nontrivial smooth solutions, all with sign information. Then by strengthening the regularity of the two nonlinearities we produce two more nodal solutions, for a total of seven nontrivial smooth solutions all with sign informations.
